Hope is one of the most invaluable traits we can cultivate within ourselves. Hope reduces feelings of helplessness, boosts happiness, reduces stress, and improves our quality of life (Peterson & Seligman, 2004). It is a way of life that purposefully chooses to see the positive rather than the negative.
The name Hope in Mind Therapy comes from the idea that hope is the foundation of therapy. Hope (regardless of how small) is probably what brought you to this page or to even seek out therapy. Hope allows for the creativity to envision change, alleviation of pain, or improvement of any circumstance. Without hope, there would be no motivation, no ability to see past the current pain, and no movement towards change. Whatever struggle you may be going through, whether it is the grip of depression, crippling impact of anxiety, or hurt from a broken relationship – with hope in mind you can overcome these hurdles.
This is not to say that you will start therapy with full confidence and steam ahead. Your first steps may be shaky and doubtful at first, but that is okay. Therapy is a wonderful journey of healing and growth and like other areas in our life, the process of growth can be painful. Hope is rooted in perseverance and when we persevere, we believe that what awaits us is worth the fight and the sacrifice to get there.
